The 4th ASEAN “Khair Ummah” Conference, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, concluded its first day with its fifth session.
The conference brings together scholars, officials, and Islamic figures from Saudi Arabia and ASEAN member states.
The final session of the day examined the role of governments and their institutions in promoting moderation and protecting communities from extremist ideas. It also discussed the impact of educational and religious institutions in fostering a culture of moderation while strengthening coexistence and social stability.
The discussion highlighted Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote a moderate approach, citing the Kingdom’s experience in building state institutions and ministries as a practical model. The approach includes promoting moderation in education, religious outreach, and discourse, strengthening national identity, countering extremism and ideological deviation, and raising awareness and fostering critical thinking. Together, these measures help build a cohesive society characterized by moderation and strong intellectual resilience.
The session underscored the important role of states and their institutions in establishing practices that protect communities and strengthen intellectual security, peace, and coexistence.
